South of Lisbon, in the municipality of Alcácer do Sal, surrounded by olive groves and horse paddocks in the midst of a fertile and idyllic region lies the Herdade do Portocarro winery. The 15-hectare, south-facing vineyard is located in an area crossed by the Sado River and characterized by hot, dry summers and mild, rainy winters. The warm and temperate Mediterranean climate in the Setúbal Peninsula region is shaped by its proximity to the sea. Thanks to this unique landscape, a love of wine, and high-quality raw materials, products of exceptional quality are produced every year. JOSÉ ABREU LOPES DA MOTA CAPITÃO’s project focuses on a philosophy of high-quality wines produced in limited quantities and with exclusive craftsmanship. Integrated pest management without human intervention ensures that the wine can express its full potential, while a range of traditional winemaking techniques, such as fermenting the grapes in French oak barrels, gives the wines their unique character.

From the very beginning, the “Herdade do Portocarro” winery has produced exceptional wines that immediately positioned themselves at the highest level of national production, including “Herdade do Portocarro”, “Tears of Anima” and “Cavalo Maluco”. These wines possess an intense and multifaceted personality, are firm and earthy, and are characterized by exceptional elegance and freshness.
