Only 1,712 bottles – there is no more Desviso Gouveio 2023 than this. Located around 50 minutes north of Lisbon, the small family winery Vinhos Desviso captures the essence of its philosophy in this white wine: craftsmanship over technology, character over conformity.
From vineyard to cellar – with care
The foundation is a selective hand-harvesting of pure Gouveio grapes. Only the most flawless grapes make their way to the cellar, where fermentation is left entirely to the wild, vineyard-native yeasts. No intervention, no additives – only what nature provides.
The subsequent aging follows a carefully considered balance: for seven months, the wine matures 69% in used French oak barrels, which give it depth and a fine, creamy texture. The remaining 31% matures in stainless steel tanks to preserve the fruit's vibrant freshness. Finally, the entire wine is blended together in the tank for another three months – it finds itself, it adapts, it becomes one.
Honest. Unfiltered. Unadulterated.
Vinhos Desviso deliberately foregoes fining, filtration, and artificial stabilization. What is in the bottle is the wine in its most natural form – vibrant, expressive, with a depth of flavor that is rarely encountered. A possible fine sediment at the bottom of the bottle is no flaw, but rather the silent sign of a wine that has been given time and respect.
