The Sardinha de Lisboa is a special ceramic figure made by Bordallo Pinheiro. It is a tribute to the traditional Portuguese sardine, which plays an important role in Portuguese cuisine and is a symbol of the country's culture and identity.
The Sardinha de Lisboa is a hand-painted ceramic figure in the shape of a sardine. It is designed in vibrant colors and decorated with various patterns, designs, and motifs.
A star among sardines! The Sardinha Constelação has the soul of an artist: bold, optimistic, and full of temperament. In bright, cheerful colors, it glides through Lisbon – in love with the famous light that makes the whole city shine. Its star decoration makes it an eye-catcher in any collection.
Designed by designer José Serrano, each sardine is crafted in the earthenware factory in Caldas da Rainha, founded by Raphael Bordallo Pinheiro in 1884. The decoration is done by hand using the elaborate decal process – only a few pieces are produced per day. It is delivered in packaging with a newspaper look, a reminiscence of the traditional sardine sale in Lisbon since the 18th century.
