2002 was a difficult year. Definitely the biggest challenge of the decade. As no grapes were used for the production of Vintage Port, our best selection was used for the production of this Colheita.
With 20 years of aging in our cellar, this is probably the most elegant and complex Colheita ever produced.
Color: light brown with a hint of amber
Very complex and intense notes of spices, caramel, and dried fruits.
Powerful start with a rich abundance of dried fruits, candied fruits in the middle of the palate. Spices in the long finish round off this multi-layered, complex, and elegant Port wine.
Shelf life of the bottle after opening: up to 4 months (in the refrigerator)
Try it with: chocolate, nuts or cheese, foie gras, crème brûlée
Colheita is a Tawny Port from a single harvest. This means that Colheita ages for at least seven years in barrels to develop a browner color and be influenced by the slow oxidation that occurs when the Port wine comes into contact with oak. Since the Colheitas from Quevedo are grown in the upper part of the Douro Valley, where yields are low and the tannins are longer lasting, they show a fruity character in their youth and are quite full-bodied. Over time, the tannins become softer and the fruit makes room for spices and nutty aromas. At this point, they become complex and rich. We can bottle the Colheita every year, as long as it is seven years old or more. A Colheita from a specific year can vary greatly depending on the year in which it was bottled. The longer it ages in the barrel, the fewer fruity aromas and tannins it has, because in the bottle, the lack of oxygen slows down the development.
