Martin-Pouret from Orléans-sur-la-Loire is one of the first names that come to mind when it comes to French vinegar. This vinegar forms the basis of a now extensive and diverse range of the finest delicatessen products and condiments offered by this traditional brand.
Since its founding in 1797, the company has continued to work with great care according to traditional methods. Whether through the selection of the finest grape varieties, masterful flavouring, or ageing in oak barrels, Martin-Pouret has perfected the art of vinegar making.
The company's tireless pursuit of perfection has produced vinegars that, then as now, can be found in renowned kitchens and on the tables of true gourmets around the world.

Its most popular products include Orléans mustard, based on a 16th-century recipe, cornichons (crunchy gherkins) traditionally marinated in white wine vinegar, as well as delicate ketchups and gourmet mayonnaises, refined with the company's own mustard and vinegar.

Since the Renaissance, the production of vinegar in France has been inextricably linked with the picturesque city of Orléans and the majestic Loire River.
At that time, fine wines from southern France were transported by boat along the Loire to Orléans before continuing their journey overland to Paris.
During this eventful journey along Europe's most turbulent river, some of the wines began to undergo a second fermentation.
These wines were entrusted in Orléans to the skilled hands of the city's vinegar masters, who expertly transformed them into vinegar. This gave rise to the famous Vinaigre d'Orléans – the vinegar of Orléans.

Orléans was once home to as many as 400 vinegar makers, who supplied 80% of the nation's demand for vinegar.
The renowned Orléans method became the gold standard for vinegar production, much like the "Méthode Champenoise" for sparkling wine. Today, only one traditional company still masters this time-honoured technique: Martin-Pouret.
